In her second book Margaret Mohrmann, now an associate professor of religious studies and medical education at the University of Virginia, relates 19 stories culled from her 30 years as an academic pediatrician. These stories, organized into 14 chapters and divided into 3 sections, transcend memoir to form an extended meditation on the true nature of doctoring and the bumpy path toward learning it. She explains, " . . . these are the stories that have formed me, as a doctor, a teacher, a theological ethicist, and a person." If you’re looking for a print version of ER or Gray’s Anatomy, don’t bother. This book has more in common with the Stations of the Cross than St Elsewhere.
