Writing Abstracts for Journal Articles

Arch Pediatr Adolesc Med. 2005;159:1083.

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 99 words of the full text and any section headings.

As the individual responsible for the first abstracts to appear in the current journal’s predecessor (The American Journal of Diseases of Children) in 1961, accolades for the very helpful hints you and your colleagues provided.1 I’d only add that the Council of Science Editors, those gurus who helped standardize abstracts, have recently added another heading called "Limitations," which is intended to alert the readers to possible shortcomings of the studies involved.
